The Great Physician: Excellence and Sincerity
Design Description
The theme of this work is “Dayi Jingcheng (The Great Physician: Excellence and Sincerity)”. The quotations are taken from the original text of BeijiQianjin Yaofang (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand in Gold for Emergencies) by the Tang Dynasty physician Sun Simiao, embodying the ethical thought of traditional Chinese medicine. The content emphasises that physicians should possess benevolence in heart and skill, and treat patients as family: a principle that remains an important reference for medical ethics to this day.
The overall layout employs a staggered arrangement of large and small script, with key sentences highlighted in bold black characters and grey smaller text providing supplementary content. This maintains visual appeal whilst enabling viewers to quickly grasp the central message. The brushwork is vigorous and unadorned, combining traditional calligraphy with the legibility required for modern display.
The above translation was supervised by Prof. Janice PAN. The content was translated by Ms. Emma LAM, and edited by Prof. Janice PAN and Dr. Robert TSATURYAN, with Mr. Sing Leung CHAN, Chinese Medicine Practitioner, serving as consultant.
