Paediatrics in Chinese Medicine

Design Description

The overall design centres on the concept of Chinese medicine’s holistic approach to children’s health, presenting the various dimensions of paediatric health through four paintings and emphasising the importance of physical well-being, social well-being, intellectual development and mental well-being. Each painting takes an animal character as its theme, depicting different aspects of health needs through vivid scenes and conveying the application of Chinese medicine’s concept of balance in paediatric health management.

The scene of a golden snub-nosed monkey performing Baduanjin (Eight-Section Brocade) exercises and observing the herb shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) emphasises physical health. The monkey’s agile, lively movements symbolise the concept of exercise in Chinese medicine health preservation, conveying the positive role of moderate physical activity in strengthening constitution and disease resistance.

The scene of a red panda family celebrating a birthday in the forest emphasises the importance of family involvement for social health. The red panda celebrating with its family enhances emotional exchange between parent and child, allowing the child to feel support and growth within the care of the family.

The scene of a young tiger learning new knowledge in a Chinese medicine classroom highlights intellectual health needs. While receiving Chinese medicine treatment, the young tiger maintains enthusiasm for learning; such a scene demonstrates the balance between learning and physical health, emphasising the importance of education for children’s intellectual development.

The scene of a panda collecting medicinal herbs and flying a kite in the mountains represents mental health. The panda is full of vitality and curiosity; through intimate contact with nature, it demonstrates the importance of mental well-being. The concept of natural healing and mind-body balance enables the viewer to understand that a healthy mindset and positive lifestyle are essential for children’s growth.

Through the combination of symbolic animal characters and Chinese medicine health preservation concepts, these four paintings comprehensively present the different aspects of children’s physical well-being, social well-being, intellectual development and mental well-being, embodying the care and wisdom of Chinese medicine in promoting children’s all-round healthy development.
